Looking back on 2020

At the end of January, Bauerfeind was affected by IT problems that compromised our availability and ability to deliver. Experts successfully worked day and night under extreme pressure to resolve the issues. Our IT specialists’ crisis center was fully staffed almost around the clock. 

Andreas Lauth, Chief Technical Officer, lent a hand distributing multi-purpose scarves to the production department for protection against Covid-19 infections in March. These “scratch cloths” were later replaced by face masks made by our own production department – coronavirus was the focal point at Bauerfeind too.

During lockdown, we kept in touch with our customers digitally. In May, the message from Zeulenroda to German medical supply retailers was #zusammensindwirstark (together we are strong)!

Despite coronavirus, the first anniversary of the new production site in Gera was celebrated in June, even if we were “only” allowed to gather in a few small groups. At that point, there were about 60 colleagues – by now, this has increased to around 100 men and women working in Gera.

In August, Germany’s TV channel Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen filmed in Zeulenroda for the documentary “30 Jahre Deutsche Einheit: Die große Ost-Bilanz” (30 years of German Reunification: a summary of the East). The film can still be accessed in the ZDF media library.

In October, b:joynz supports for the knees, back, ankles, and elbows were launched as an exclusive offer to selected Bauerfeind Quality Partners. With this new brand, Bauerfeind will now also be represented in the segment of basic medical products covered by health insurance.

Construction continued throughout the entire year and 21 vacation homes at Manoah have been ready for visitors since November. The vacation home estate is located near the dam in Zeulenroda and is part of the Bio-Seehotel. 

Geretsried, Germany, near Lake Starnberg: Here the hundredth measuring system Bodytronic 610 was installed at our customer Gesundheitshaus  Piegsa in early December. The body scanner has been on the market for almost two years and was in great demand, especially this year.
