The magical brand for 2025

One million GenuTrains!

Delighted with their shared success: Team leader Steffi Schein (BWK 1), team leader Mike Fritzsche (BWS 1), shift supervisor Romy Winkler and deputy team leader Petra Fritzsche (BK 7).

In 2025, one million GenuTrains were produced by Bauerfeind – a figure never seen before in a single year. With the 2 billion meters of yarn that was used for this, the equator could be circumnavigated 50 times. Romy Winkler from the BWK1 Team packaged the record-breaking item on December 9, 2025. See all backgrounds relating to this team effort here.

“Reaching one million is a magical threshold,” explains Alexander Kuhn, Production Manager for Supports, adding: “The fact that our own Manufacturing Division achieved this with our most popular product makes me so proud of my teams!”

Three teams – BWS 1 headed up by Maik Fritsche, BWK 1 headed up by Steffi Schein, and BK 7 headed up by Ina Vogel – were involved in particular. These teams knit, manufacture, and package our GenuTrain. The knee support is still in great demand all over the world, “which is also thanks to the great effort made by many other teams, such as Marketing and Sales,” explains Alexander Kuhn confidently. In order to cope with the high number of orders coming in, all Production Teams demonstrated great commitment and made sure that the product was available to be delivered at all times. Organizational changes in the garment manufacturing department also made it possible to fulfill all customer orders. Team BK 7 took over the production of the larger GenuTrain sizes as well as the manufacturing of the new GenuTrain Comfort with adhesive band. “Without mutual support – both within our own production area and across departments – such successes and others would not be possible,” says Alexander Kuhn.

Katharina Dietrich thanked all colleagues during the Christmas festivities on December 4: “We won’t forget that. It’s something you’ve all achieved – for the first time in more than 90 years of Bauerfeind.”

About the GenuTrain

The three inventors of GenuTrain are Prof. Heinrich Heß, the former team doctor of the German national football team, Prof. Wolfgang Krause, at the time Chief Medical Director of the Orthopedic State Clinic in Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe, and Prof. Hans B. Bauerfeind. They transferred the principle of functional therapy from compression bandages to the support. The GenuTrain was launched in 1981. It was the beginning of a series of products. The eighth GenuTrain generation has been available since 2019. The fine knitted fabric of one knee support has 100,000 stitches and around 2,000 meters of yarn. For knee patients with a tapered leg shape and very soft connective tissue on the thigh, the GenuTrain’s comfort sizes have been available with an additional siliconized edge since September 2025.
