A glimpse behind the construction fence

What actually forms under the ground?

The excavators are here, areas are fenced off, and visible work is being done on the 4.5-hectare site: the expansion of our Zeulenroda location has begun. In "Nahtlos", we regularly look behind the construction fence for you, talk to project managers, and answer questions about the construction site. What is happening currently? Why are parking spaces being relocated? Why is so much earth being moved? And what is actually being built underground?

What is currently happening on the campus construction site?

Since June 1, excavators, bulldozers, and various construction machines have been rolling on the campus construction site at Bauerfeind in Zeulenroda. Impressive amounts of earth are being moved. The reason: the terrain is still being shaped and leveled until the beginning of July. There are height differences of up to 1.50 meters in some areas. These must be balanced out before the actual high-rise construction work can begin.

What is happening underground?

Currently, a so-called storage channel is being prepared. This is an underground structure as large as a swimming pool, which, in simple terms, serves as a large cistern. We need this because new buildings will absorb significantly more rainwater than before. The storage channel collects this water initially and then controls the release of it into the drainage system.

Why is construction taking place at the Tower parking lot?

For the new storage channel to fulfill its purpose, existing sewage pipes must also be expanded and adapted. Therefore, extensive civil engineering work will take place in the area of the tower parking lot in the coming weeks.

What does this mean for the parking situation?

The tower parking lot is expected to be closed from late June/early July. A temporary parking area will be created next to the Waikiki parking lot as a replacement. Additionally, there are reserves available at the Waikiki parking lot.

Construction sites will temporarily change some of the route directions. This applies, for example, to the connection between the Waikiki parking lot and the tower. Concrete changes will be announced in due time.

Why was a construction fence set up?

That's a requirement. The construction fence marks the construction site and ensures the necessary safety on the premises. As exciting as the developments on the construction site are: For safety reasons, only authorized persons are allowed to enter the construction site!

  • Please stay on the designated paths and observe the barriers and local signage. A "look behind the construction fence" is regularly available here at Nahtlos. Please send your questions about construction to: kommunikation@bauerfeind.com.

Is the construction progress actually documented?

Yes. A camera documents the construction progress. This way, it is possible to understand later how the terrain changed step by step.
