A lot of action at Bio-Seehotel despite its closure
Renovation, refurbishment and vaccination center
During 2020, Bio-Seehotel Zeulenroda was open for a mere 137 days: from the middle of May to October. This was followed by a lengthy closure until June 5, 2021. Since that date, tourists and local holidaymakers have been able to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel at Lake Zeulenroda again.
A fresh coat of paint for 91 hotel rooms, lobby and kitchen
However, the team consisting of 136 employees was not lacking work because extensive refurbishment was being carried out. The entire floor was renewed in the lobby as well as the bar and lounge area downstairs. The hotel rooms, too, were completely renovated and equipped with new bathrooms – some handicapped accessible. Two exclusive suites with an extraordinary view of the lake were created in addition. “Virtually all refurbishment work would not have been possible during usual hotel operations,” Marco Lange explains. “Not only would the guests have complained about the noise all the time, but it would have also been impossible logistically. We made the best out of a bad situation,” the Managing Director explains.
The most beautiful vaccination center in Thuringia
Between the middle of April and the end of May 2021, a total of 16,308 first and second vaccinations were given at Bio-Seehotel. “The decision to use the Bio-Seehotel was an easy one,” reports Beate Linsmeier, Head of Greiz Public Health Department. The hall with an area of 648 m² and handicapped access offered the perfect conditions for a vaccination center.
When asked which experience the company took away from this time without regular hotel operation, Marco Lange replies: “We all bonded even more. In this time of predominantly mental strain, we noticed how important it is to communicate regularly with our employees, despite the closure.” There were no forced redundancies, quite the opposite: they had new applicants. “Many former colleagues returned to us after their apprenticeship or training at the Bio-Seehotel and subsequent roles,” Marco Lange says. He is particularly thankful to Bauerfeind because “without the financial support and strong backing, a lot of what we managed to achieve in these difficult times would not have been possible.”
