The Olympic Winter Games are to take place in the Chinese capital of Beijing from February 4 to 20, 2022. But this time, no Bauerfeind Team will be traveling to China to take care of the participants’ orthopedic needs on site. This is down to the specific conditions in the country and the coronavirus situation. However, Bauerfeind products will still be a part of the Olympic Games.
Because of China’s zero-Covid policy, the Olympic Games will take place in a “bubble”, i.e. as closed off from the rest of the country as possible. Neither athletes nor other participants must come in contact with the public. To ensure this, thousands of staff, volunteers, cleaners, cooks, and bus drivers will be shielded from the outside for weeks – in three regions. There will be 109 competitions that take place in three different cities: indoor sports in the capital Beijing, primarily alpine competitions in Yanqing, 75 km away, and the Nordic disciplines in Zhangjiakou (approximately 180 km from Beijing). The individual national teams – who will arrive with their own team physicians – are in charge of the athletes’ medical care. There are also regional hospitals nearby, some of which have been built specifically for the occasion.
Bauerfeind products for on-site emergencies
Some of the team physicians are able to supply Bauerfeind products. The German Olympic Team, for example, is equipped with an “emergency suitcase” provided by Bauerfeind. This suitcase features various orthoses and supports for common acute injuries. In addition, most of the German Olympians have been supplied with products ahead of the Games – whether with compression stockings for the flight or supports for preventive use. Austria, Switzerland, and Canada, for example, also proceeded in this way to ideally equip their athletes with Bauerfeind products for the sporting highlight of their career, which will take place in such challenging conditions in 2022.
