Four insights into the Olympic Games Project

Only 80 more days until the start of the Olympic Games – and there’s still a lot to do. It is thanks to our colleagues from the Olympic Games Project that our involvement in Paris will be smooth sailing. As representatives for all the helpers, we will introduce four colleagues and their tasks here:
What is your task in the Olympic Games Project?
Ulf Trommer, Head of Department Group Accounting/Taxes
“We have agreed with the Paris Organizational Committee that we can provide athletes with products in the Olympic village. In the Financial Accounting Department, we are checking how this business must be treated in Germany and France from a tax perspective. We’re mainly focusing on Value Added Tax in both countries. Our goal is also to guarantee effective processing in Accounting. We’re lucky with France hosting the Games because the rules within the EU are basically the same. That was a different story with the Summer Olympics in Rio in 2016.”

“I’m making sure that all products will arrive in time. The Bauerfeind Sports Team has already given me the list with all the required products. This year, we have 6,500. I analyze the order quantity and compare it to the current order volume and warehouse stock. I then let the Project Preparation Department know what quantities have to be produced for the Olympic Games and by when. We already have a lot of experience with these internal processes and are making good time with production. I’ll keep checking over the coming weeks which products are ready and which are missing so our colleagues in the Logistics Department can start packing at the beginning of June.”

“Before the Olympic Games, I receive various requests for equipment. Tablets are needed, for example, that will be used to easily record athletes’ data and measurement values in the polyclinic. I also check the cell phone providers’ network availability because we have to be able to get in touch with colleagues arriving from outside the EU. Erik Baumann, my Team Leader, is in charge of insurance. That’s important because insurance cover must be guaranteed for everyone during a high-security event like the Olympic Games.”

“The Organizational Committee has stringent requirements when it comes to sustainability. All participants have to prove credibly that they do business in a sustainable way. We have been certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System since last year so we were able to impress the Committee with our dedication. I described in a catalog which requirements Bauerfeind is already complying with. This demonstrated how we’re tackling the challenges of economic and ecological sustainability. I have been dealing with Environmental Communications in addition to the work in Translation Management since 2020, and I work with Christian Gerbert, Environmental Manager, from Regulatory Affairs & Certifications in cross-departmental cooperation.”
